On Saturday, September 17th the crew at Naturally Outdoors has a special day planned for lovers of the great outdoors! Join us as we explore Amherst island... by land AND water!
Join us on wonderful Amherst Island for both a hike and a paddle, or one of the two. But hopefully both. Below are the details about the events and ferry options.
Hiking Topsy Farm Trails
We're beginning the day with a nice hike. Starting at 10:15am, you can explore approx. 6km of trails at Topsy Farms, located at 14775 Front Road, Amherst Island. It's a fun walk that takes you through farmland and wooded areas all the way out to the bluffs (note that the bluffs are steep, so please keep away from the edge).
We'll more than likely see some wildlife while we're out. You can learn more about the trails here.

Bring Your Own Lunch
After the hike you can make your way back to the mainland or, hopefully, you'll stick around for an island paddle in the afternoon. Note that if you wish to spend the whole day with us, please pack your own lunch as the island restaurant is closed for the season. If you forget, don't worry, McGinn's General Store in Stella has some options that will fill the hunger gap.
After lunch be sure to visit The Wool Shed at the farm. They sell an amazing selection of wool products and have some amazing honey and other farm products available too. Also, if there's time, we may have zip over to Sand Beach Wetlands Conservation Area too for a late-summer dip in the lake.
Paddling the Shoreline
At 2:15pm we will begin paddling the beautiful Amherst Island shoreline. We will be meeting at Topsy Farms for this one too. Jacob, one of the owners of the farm, will be letting us know where we can launch from. There are a couple options available which depend on the way the wind is blowing on Saturday.

About the Ferry
The ferry leaves Millhaven on the half-hour, so we suggest you catch the 9:30am ferry for the morning hike and the 1:30pm ferry for the afternoon paddle. There's a $10 charge that you pay on the way to the island. You don't have to pay on the way back.
Note that the ferry leaves exactly on time when possible and waits for no one. Find out more.
Again, you don't have to attend both the hike and the paddle, but we hope you do. We're really looking forward to the day. It should be a lot of fun!
